Ref Fired After Asking Pueblo HS Students For Green Cards

An inappropriate comment cost a High School Ref his job after asking the coach of Pueblo HS if his players had "Green Cards". When the AIA questioned the ref he reportedly said that he was just making a joke to the coach. The parents and staff of the predominantly Mexican/Hispanic campus did not take this lightly and took to social media to expose the situation. The students reportedly kept their cool and handled themselves extremely well during the game. The next day it was back to business at school. The team returned to practice after the principle called a school meeting to congratulate the students for the way they handled the situation.

The AIA responded with the following statement:

“An inappropriate comment was made by an official to a coach, that was overhead by a parent and that the official has since been dismissed by the AIA.”

Hopefully these young Pueblo students and can continue to keep their head high during the rest their season. What would you do as the parent of one of these students? Would a comment like this upset you or would you take it like a joke? Would you have wanted them to stop the game until a new official was found? Let us know below!

Sheesh ref, what a bad call... Go Warriors!
