R. Kelly is requesting an immediate release from prison after he alleged that his life is in danger.
According to a report TMZ published on Wednesday, June 11, Kelly's attorneys have filed an emergency motion in which they claim to have evidence that the singer is the target of a murder-for-hire plot involving prison officials and a fellow inmate. Kelly is currently serving out his 30-year sentence at a penitentiary in North Carolina. In the motion, the singer's lawyers included a sworn statement signed by Mikeal Glenn Stine, an Aryan Brotherhood gang leader who is terminally ill. Stine claims authorities offered to free him if he killed Kelly.
Stine claimed someone from the Bureau of Prisons promised to help bury the case, transfer him to another prison, and allow him to escape for good. The hired assassin said he was ready to move forward with the hit and even approached Kelly in his housing area back in March. Fortunately for the singer, Stine said he backed out in the last minute. He decided to tell Kelly about the scheme and reported it.
Kelly is naturally scared for his safety. According to the artist's attorneys, another member of the Aryan Brotherhood was ordered to take out both Kelly and Stine with more potential assassins on standby. In addition to the emergency motion, Kelly has also filed a separate request to the U.S. Supreme Court. Stine said he is willing to take a lie detector test and testify if necessary.
R. Kelly is behind bars serving his 30-year sentence after he was found guilty of sex crimes in 2021. The Grammy award-winning singer-songwriter was convicted of various charges, including racketeering and sex trafficking, after he sexually assaulted multiple young women and girls throughout his musical career. He tried to appeal his convictions; however, the 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Manhattan ruled to uphold the convictions earlier this year.
