Ari Lennox is no longer a part of Dreamville Records after she apparently got her wish to be released from J. Cole's record label.
According to a report TMZ published on Wednesday, April 23, the R&B singer has left Dreamville and will continue her music career under Interscope Records. Rumors about her split from J. Cole's imprint began to circulate after she dropped her latest single "Soft Girl Era" without her longtime label's name attached to it. The song dropped six months after she vented her frustrations with the label's alleged inability to promote her music.
"I'm ok and I've never been happier," she wrote in an Instagram Story last October. "What I don't like is being signed and lied to and manipulated. Not one person at those labels ever knew how to market or protect me. Y'all don't know the half. Constant let down and neglect. This industry stuff will never be for me."
Ari Lennox was first signed to Dreamville in 2015. She released her major label debut Pho in 2016 and followed up with her first studio album, Shea Butter Baby, three years later. She continued to ride with Dreamville by appearing on two of their compilation LP's Revenge of the Dreamers and dropping her second album Age/Sex/Location featuring her smash hit "Pressure."
Despite airing out her gripes about both labels, Ari Lennox's breakup with Dreamville seems to be cordial. She hit the stage at the final Dreamville Festival earlier this month and performed her last set as a Dreamer. During her set, she thanked Cole and the label for helping her accomplish her dreams over the past decade.
