Turbo Secures Victory In $10 Million Lawsuit Over Producer Tag

A judge has ruled in favor of hitmaker Turbo after he was sued for $10 million over the use of his notable producer tag.

Georgia native Jamal Britt used his voice to record the line "Run dat back Turbo" for his collaboration with the producer "Afghanistan" in 2017. The line became Turbo's iconic tag and appeared in numerous hit songs. According to the lawsuit filed last January, Britt accused Turbo, born Chandler Durham, of using the tag in Gunna & Lil Baby's "Drip Too Hard" plus over 80 records by Chris Brown, Nicki Minaj, Moneybagg Yo and others without his consent.

Britt sued Turbo for copyright infringement and demanded joint authorship of the tracks in question along with compensation for past royalties and damages. During a hearing held Friday, March 7, the judge ruled that Britt's claims in his lawsuit were without merit and affirmed his involvement in the tag’s use didn't go beyond the original recording of "Afghanistan." The ruling also reinforced Turbo’s exclusive rights, ownership and control of his producer tag's use in future tracks.

The infamous tag appears on Turbo's latest song "Classy Girl." The 30-year-old beatmaker teamed up with his good friend Gunna for a smooth single about flawless women who love to live lavish lifestyles. Turbo previewed the record last month before it arrived on streaming services last week.
