Metro Boomin has lent a helping hand a lot of single mothers and their children from his hometown.
On Monday, May 20, the superproducer teamed up with Rung for Women and Amazon Access to present checks to five non-profit organizations that are dedicated to improving the lives of women and kids in the St. Louis area.
“I’ve seen firsthand the work that goes into being a single mother. Mine was my inspiration and my hero,” Metro said in a statement. “It’s very important to me to pay it forward, because I see the same resilience and dedication in the women these organizations work with.”
The five organizations — Almost Home, Diamond Diva Empowerment Foundation, The Haven of Grace, The Little Bit Foundation and Parents as Teachers — received $20,000 each, which is $100,000 in total. All grants will go to individual women to help them pay off some debt or go towards child care, utilities, etc. The money was raised during the Leslie Joanne Soirée holiday event Metro, Rung for Women and Amazon Access hosted back in December.
Each organization received its check ahead of "Metro Boomin Night" for the St. Louis Cardinals game at the Together Credit Union Plaza at Ballpark Village on Monday. The "Like That" beatmaker provided the pre-game vibes and later hit the field to throw the first pitch. He also gave 45 kids from Sankofa House an opportunity to join him during the special themed night at the ballpark.
It's been nearly two years since Metro Boomin lost his mother Leslie Wayne after she was murdered by her husband, who was not Metro's father. Last year, Metro reflected on the loss of his mother in an emotional tribute he posted to Instagram.
