Angelina Jolie Holds Back Tears Seeing Her Son Maddox Off To College

2017 Toronto International Film Festival - "First They Killed My Father" Premiere

Angelina Jolie couldn't be prouder of her son, Maddox Jolie-Pitt, as the teen starts college this fall.

As any mom would be, the Academy Award-winning actress was reasonably (and visibly) emotional as she fought back tears of joy while seeing her eldest son off to Yonsei University in South Korea on Wednesday (August 21). Earlier this month, Us Weekly confirmed the 18-year-old intends to study biochemistry at the institution, where Jolie and Maddox previously visited in November 2018.

“I leave today, today’s the day I drop him off,” the 44-year-old tells Maddox's college peers in a video clip shared to Instagram, admitting she was "trying not to cry." Shortly before wishing her son good luck at school and saying goodbye, the Maleficent actress invites the students to join her in a group photo.

Noticeably absent for Maddox's big send-off was his father and Jolie's ex-husband Brad Pitt, who has reportedly barely been present in his son's life recently.

“Brad hasn’t been spending much time with Maddox lately,” a source told the publication, adding that the film star would not be there to drop his son off at college. “Maddox doesn’t really see himself as Brad’s son,” said another insider, who adds the pair's relationship has remained estranged years after having an alleged altercation on a private plane in 2016.

As you know, Jolie and Pitt, who divorced in 2016, share six children together, including 15-year-old son Pax, 14-year-old daughter Zahara, 13-year-old daughter Shiloh and 11-year-old twins, Knox and Vivienne.
