Disney Channel Nixes 'Descendants 3' Red Carpet After Cameron Boyce's Death

Disney Channel pulled the plug on the red carpet event for Descendants 3 following the recent death of the film's star Cameron Boyce.

"We're proud to be part of Cameron Boyce's legacy by showcasing his talents on screen but we are cancelling the red carpet premiere event for ‘Descendants 3’ (scheduled for July 22) and instead, The Walt Disney Company will make a donation to the Thirst Project, a philanthropic organization to which Cameron was deeply committed," Disney Channel said in a statement, which was shared on Thursday (July 11). "With permission from the Boyce family, Disney Channel will dedicate the telecast of ‘Descendants 3’ in Cameron Boyce’s memory."

Earlier this week, Cameron Boyce's parents also released a statement about the life and legacy of their son after his sudden death on Saturday (July 6), which was prompted by a seizure during his sleep. He was 20. "There are no words to describe how moved we are by the tremendous outpouring of love and support from our family, friends, and the world. Thank you, everyone, for encircling us with your love and respect of Cameron and concern for our family," they said in a statement via PEOPLE. "He was the very definition of human kindness, and a light that will forever shine as his spirit lives on in all who knew and loved him. He was the rock of our family and he always had a positive, heartwarming, insightful and caring outlook on everything and everyone."

In addition to the Descendants series, Boyce was a regular among other Disney franchises, including Jessie, Jake and the Never Land Pirates, and Gamer’s Guide to Pretty Much Everything. He also played Adam Sandler's son in Grown Ups and Grown Ups 2.
