Pro Gambler Sets Single-Day Winnings Record On Jeopardy!

A professional gambler from Las Vegas continued his Jeopardy! hot streak, setting a new record for single-day cash winnings following his fourth consecutive win on the quiz show. 34-year-old James Holzhauer shattered Roger Craig’s 2010 record of $77,000, taking home a total of $110,914.

With $72,600, Holzhauer had a commanding lead over his opponents heading into Final Jeopardy, and his victory was never in doubt. The only question was could he get the final question right and wager enough money to break the record. Holzhauer nailed the physics related question and wagered $38,314 to bring his single-day winnings to $110,914.

Why the strange bet with nothing to lose? Holzhauer explained that his daughter was born on November 9, 2014 (11/09/14) and he wanted to honor her in his historic victory.

“I said all along that I wanted to break Roger Craig’s one-game record and I did it,” Holzhauer said.

Holzhauer has won a total of $244,000 and will go for his fifth consecutive victory on Wednesday (April 10) night.

In March, Jeopardy! host Alex Trebek announced that he has been diagnosed with stage four pancreatic cancer and says he plans to fight the disease. The episode that aired on Tuesday night was taped on February 11.
