Florida Man Who Bought $8 Million Island Was Busted Stealing From Kmart

Police in Key West, Florida arrested a man for allegedly stealing around $300 worth of household items from Kmart just days after he purchased an $8 million private island. Officials say that 59-year-old Andrew Lippi bought various items from Kmart between March 30 and April 5 and swapped them with cheaper goods before heading back to the store to return them.

Lippi, who also owns a 12-bedroom resort in Key West, purchased a Keurig coffee machine on March 30 and returned it to the store the following day with a basketball inside of the box. A few days later, he went back to the store and purchased a Hamilton Beach coffee maker and two packs of LED light bulbs. He returned to the store a few hours later and tried to return the items but this time, he swapped the coffee maker with an older model and re-taped the box to make it appear as if he had never opened it. He also replaced the light bulbs with a different brand. Lippi tried his luck again the next day, swapping out a bed skirt with a pillowcase.

A loss prevention officer turned over surveillance video of Lippi making the fraudulent returns to police. Lippi denied swapping out the items when he was questioned by investigators. He was taken into custody and charged with grand theft.
