Juneteenth is June 19th with event celebrations in June around the community. It has been formally celebrated in Tucson since 1970. Juneteenth was recognized as a state holiday in Arizona in 2016 and became a federal holiday in 2021. The City of Tucson made it an official holiday for municipal employees in 2022. This year, 2025 is the 160th anniversary of commemorating the emancipation of enslaved people. It was first celebrated in Texas in 1865 and represents an important milestone in American History.
