Friends and family of the late and great Frankie Knuckles recently gathered for his memorial.
Following the ceremony, fellow DJ and one of Frankie's close friends David Morales shared a letter from President Obama, who sends his condolences, thoughts, and prayers to his family and friends, and to give his praise to Knuckles.
President Obama describes Frankie in the letter as a "trailblazer in his field" and goes on to say "his legacy lives on in the city of Chicago and a dance floors across the globe."

Frankie had met Obama before. In 2004, the city of Chicago, with the help of then-Illinois state senator Obama, renamed a stretch of one of its streets "Frankie Knuckles Way" where the Warehouse Club once stood after the city declared August 25th, 2004 as Frankie Knuckles Day.
